American Home Shield Pricing

American Home Shield’s home warranty prices are in line with industry averages. Plan pricing will depend on where you live, the type of plan you choose, and how many add-ons you include in your coverage.

Plan Pricing

In general, American Home Shield costs between $40 and $58 per month. If you choose a $100 or $125 service fee, your monthly premium will be cheaper. We recommend filling out this simple online form to get a free quote for plans in your area.

Service Fees

In addition to a monthly premium, customers pay a service call fee, a one-time fee paid to the contractor who comes to address the system or appliance in question. AHS lets customers choose their own service fee of $75, $100, or $125.

Choosing a lower service call fee means you’ll have to pay more each month, while opting for a higher service fee means you’ll pay less every month.

American Home Shield State Availability

American Home Shield offers home warranty coverage for homeowners in 49 states nationwide, excluding Alaska.

American Home Shield Reviews

In general, American Home Shield home warranty reviews from existing customers are a mix of positive and negative reviews. Some customers are happy with quick fixes and an easy claims process, while some complain about denied claims and negative experiences with on-site technicians.

Take a look at a few American Home Shield reviews posted on the Better Business Bureau (BBB):

absolutely the best ac repair . **** came in, asked a couple of questions, then went about his job to diagnosed the problem and repair the ac. And, after 5 days of no ac in hot weather with a 3 week old infant in the house, we were very happy. **** was very knowledgeable and diligently checked to make sure everything was working prior to him leaving. Best company ever. I highly recommend American Home Shield.” — Cynthia D., 9/6/2022

Ive had AHS for 3 years. Ive used them at least 4 times and never has a problem. I think it is a great value compared to what a service call and repair would normally cost for the issues Ive used them for. They are quick to respond to the service request and setting up an appointment to have someone come out to inspect/ repair!!Very satisfied customer here!” — Linda B., 9/6/2022

Worst home warranty company Ive ever worked with. Its been 8 days now since we filed a claim for our dishwasher and we still havent had a call from the contractor assigned to schedule an appointment for repairs. I have literally wasted hours of my time calling the warranty company to follow up. The warranty company says they have to fail three different times reaching out to said contractor before they can assign another one. The warranty company finally got us an appointment from 1-5 on day 7 and the contractor never showed up. We canceled plans to be here. So frustrating. I will be canceling my plan at the end of the month.” — Shane R., 8/18/2022

We also received this feedback from one of our readers:

“They are unresponsive, do not follow through on calls, and use cut-rate service vendors who lack in their ability to complete repairs in a timely manner. I have now been waiting a month for hot water, have had three visits from the service vendor, and have been told by both the vendor and AHS that the parts are on order. My previous experience with AHS was to get a clothes dryer repaired. After over a month of waiting for parts, I finally purchased a new dryer. Several months later they did reimburse me for the purchase. AHS never did any follow-up until I cancelled the service call and demanded payment.” — John F., 10/28/2022
