7 Simple How-To Staging Tips

There comes a time where we simply must sell our beloved home and move to another place. So, when you are selling your house, you must make it look its absolute best. When potential movers walk through the door, they must be impressed. This is where home staging comes in. You are probably wondering what that is. Home staging is a decorating method used to highlight the best parts of your house. It should make buyers want to move in immediately. If you do it right, you will have no problems selling your house quickly and moving out. If you want to know how to make this possible, take a look at our 7 simple how-to staging tips:

  1. Stage where necessary

Not all rooms are of equal importance. So, make sure to stage where it counts. For example, you must focus on the rooms that you think have the biggest potential. Do not spend too much time redecorating the rooms which will not make any difference. The rooms that are attracting potential buyers the most are the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. That is one of our first staging tips.  Invest all of your time, money and energy in those three rooms. Moreover, do not think that you have to completely redecorate entire rooms. No need to buy new furniture and such. Just, use some natural colors for the walls, clean and declutter, and let light come inside. That is all.  Do not stress about children’s bedrooms and bathrooms.

  1. Depersonalize the House

When potential buyers come to your house, they want to envision it as their own. Your home should have style and charm, but it should be blank as well. Stay away from personal touches. That means that you should start removing all of your family photos, magnets on the fridge or any other memories. Clothes should be stored out of sight, and any religious items should be removed. Try to leave things like neutral paintings and plants, they are always a bonus. If you were buying or renting a house or an apartment, you would look for the same thing – a blank and natural space you can make your own.

  1. Declutter

Having clutter in your house is the worst. You need clean space in order to sell your house. Also, clutter is what takes up all the space and makes your home seem smaller. And you do not want that, right? However, you do not have to get rid of your things forever, just pack them in boxes and get them ready for your next home. You can also use storage units in your area to create more space. The less clutter you have, the better. Besides using storage for the most important things that you want to save, you should also consider:

  • Selling it online
  • Having a yard sale
  • Donating
  • Throwing it away if it has no use.
  1. Clean the House as if Your Life Depended on It

Clean, clean, clean! And we are not talking about your everyday cleaning, not even a spring cleaning. We are talking about making every corner of your house shine! If your home is squeaky clean, the potential buyers will get the impression that you are taking good care of your home. So, the places you have neglected so far, like the inside of your refrigerator or your dusty window blinds, now need all your attention. However, if you do not want to be bothered with this much work, you can always hire a cleaning agency. Professionals will clean the spots you didn’t know existed.

  1. Patch and Fix

Home staging is the perfect time to deal with all those tiny nicks, scratches, and holes you might have in random places in your house. When finding a place to call home in another city, the most important thing you would look for is a move-in ready house that does not require a lot of work. So do your potential buyers. So, start with a melamine foam eraser pad and go room to room and remove any scuffs from walls. Maybe some painting touch-ups will be required as well. Just like with cleaning, it has to look like you have put a lot of effort to preserve your house.

  1. Go Neutral

This staging tip is a bit more time and energy consuming as well as expensive. But, we think it will be worth it, and you will attract more potential home buyers. Moreover, the value of your house will rise. So, how to do it? The first thing that you should focus on is the color of your walls. Too bright or too dark colors are a big turn off for the buyers. When trying to sell the house, you should focus on colors like grey, beige, white or taupe.

  1. Make It as Light as Possible

Nobody likes dark rooms. They seem sad and neglected and, most of the time, depressing. You need to lighten things up by letting in as much light in as possible. Also, if you have bright rooms, buyers will get the impression that they are bigger. So, remove the blinds from the windows, or at least open the slats to get a similar effect. Moreover, turn on all the lights in your house on the ‘open house day’, this includes all the lamps and closet lights as well.

Having all the lights on will make your home look more welcoming. If possible, leave some plants inside as well. They are always a nice decoration
